Kumara is named for Upasana's grandfather. Kumara Kurup spent his career as an Ayurvedic doctor, healing local townspeople in Haripad for over 50 years. He lived, studied, and worked in Kerala, the spiritual heartland of Ayurveda.

But to me, he was simply my beloved  "Appupan" - a funny, fiercely loving grandfather with a razor sharp wit. One of the ways I felt his love while growing up was how quickly he would send a cure if anything ailed me. My parents would call him and describe the issue, my grandfather would listen carefully, consult his encyclopedic memory of Ayurvedic treatments, decide on a formulation, dispatch orders to my aunts to source the ingredients, and send them to New York where we lived.

Today, we want to bring that same loving care and attention to you through Kumara.
